Gambling Research Exchange Ontario: BET Community Initiatives

The objective of this funding opportunity is to provide grants to community organizations looking to complete a knowledge translation project focused on mental health, addictions, and/or community wellbeing.

ELIGIBILITY: Academic organizations are eligible to apply when partnered with a community organization.
AMOUNT: Depending on the nature of the proposed project, applicants can apply for a $15K or $40K grant.

CIMVHR True Patriot Love (TPL) Research Initiative: Call for Proposals

The CIMVHR TPL Research Initiative will support priority research areas including but not limited to:

  • Military family health
  • Transition throughout the military and Veteran life course
  • Mental and/or physical health research and rehabilitation in Canadian military, Veterans or families
  • The ethics of healthcare and the healing of moral injury as it relates to service
  • Analysis of provincial health data, or other relevant datasets, for the purposes of advancing military, Veteran and family health research.

AMOUNT: CIMVHR is expecting to award a select number of seed funding projects (approximately $5,000 - $25,000) as well as a select number of larger projects (approximately ($50,000 - $60,000).

Paralyzed Veterans of America: Research Grant

Paralyzed Veterans of America Research Foundation supports innovative research and fellowships that improve the lives of those with spinal cord injury and disease. The Research Foundation funds the following categories:

  • Laboratory research in the basic sciences to find a cure for spinal cord injury and disease.
  • Clinical and functional studies of the medical, psychosocial and economic effects of spinal cord injury and disease, and interventions to alleviate these effects.
  • Design and development of assistive technology for people with spinal cord injury and disease, which includes improving the identification, selection and utilization of these services.
  • Fellowships for postdoctoral scientists, clinicians and engineers to encourage training and specialization in the field of spinal cord research.

AMOUNT: $75,000 - $150,000 (for one or two years)

The Royal-Mach-Gaensslen Prize for Mental Health Research

The Royal-Mach-Gaensslen Prize for Mental Health Research was established in 2015, and is awarded annually to recognize and support rising star Canadian research scientists with a focus in the area of mental health.

ELIGIBILITY: Candidates shall be rising star researchers who are 45 years of age or younger at the deadline date, are Canadian citizens or have landed immigrant status in Canada and are currently residing in Canada or are residing abroad but are committed to return to Canada within six months from the date of the Prize.

National Ataxia Foundation: Research Grant

The National Ataxia Foundation (NAF) is committed to funding the best science relevant to hereditary and sporadic types of ataxia in both basic and translational research.

Three types of research grants are available:

  1. Research Grants: One0year see money grants of up to $15,000 but promising proposals up to a maximum of $30,000 will be considered for early or pilot phases of studies and ongoing investigations. Applicants for seed-money grants need to be faculty members.
  2. Young Investigator Awards: One-year grants of $35,000 to encourage young investigators to pursue a career in the field of any form of Ataxia research.
  3. Fellowship Awards: One-year grants up to $35,000. Applicants should have completed at least one year of post-doctoral training, but not more than two at the time of application.

ELIGIBILITY: Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply for a research grant from NAF.

Spencer Foundation: Small Research Grant

The objective of this funding opportunity is to fund academic work that will contribute to the improvement of education, broadly conceived.

Historically, the research funded through this Foundation has spanned a range of topics and disciplines including, education, psychology, sociology, economics, history and anthropology.

SSHRC Connection Grants

Connection Grants support workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes, or other events or outreach activities that facilitate:

  • disciplinary and/or interdisciplinary exchanges in the humanities and social sciences;
  • scholarly exchanges between those working in the social sciences and humanities and those working in other research fields.
  • intersectoral exchanges between academic researchers in the humanities and social sciences and researchers and practitioners from the public, private, and/or not-for-profit sectors; and/or
  • international research collaboration and scholarly exchanges with researchers, students and non-academic partners from other countries.

AMOUNT: $7,000 to $25,000 for events, and up to $50,000 for other outreach activities; higher amounts for outreach activities may be considered if well justified. Please note that SSHRC will NOT fund the full cost of any Connection project. Additional support in the form of eligible cash and/or in-kind contributions (excluding registration fees), equivalent to a minimum of 50 per cent of the amount requested from SSHRC, must come from sponsoring organizations.

Migraine Research Foundation (MRF) & the Association of Migraine Disorders (AMD): Request for Proposals

The MRF and the AMD welcome all proposals relevant to basic or clinical migraine research. They are particularly interested in translational projects and those related to migraine variants, childhood migraine, and chronic migraine.

The BrightFocus Foundation supports highly innovative experimental ideas for Alzheimer's disease.

The Standard Award provides significant funding for researchers who have already generated some amount of preliminary data, but are often required to demonstrate additional, significant progress before they can apply to governmental or industrial funding agencies.
