Wondering what to do with your Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Health? Want to meet York Alumni and other professionals working in the healthcare field?

Connect with Faculty of Health graduates currently enjoying their careers in healthcare and get the inside scoop on what it’s really like to work in this field. During this panel, professionals will share their personal stories about breaking into the healthcare field, how their career paths took them from graduation to where they are now, what knowledge, skills and experience helped them succeed in their jobs and what types of opportunities are available in the healthcare field. The panel will be moderated by one of the Career Centre’s team members and followed by an open forum where students will have an opportunity to ask the panelists their own questions.

Registration is required. You may register for this event on the Career Centre’s online system (you must sign up for an account before you will be able to register for any events on the system).

Completing my health science degree at York University had opened up a world of possibilities including a paid internship (York International Internship Award) to spend several months in South Africa volunteering at Sci-Bono DIscovery Centre.
It’s never easy to figure out what you want to do after graduating but the degree and this unforgettable internship abroad helped me understand that I wanted to pursue a degree in Public Health and work in healthcare – making a difference in people’s lives.

Beginning my studies in Kinesiology and Health Science, I remember having a burning passion to help others understand their bodies but little direction to channel my energy.

My program exposed me to opportunities and a network that led me to my current workplace which is a multidisciplinary clinic. Here I work collaborate with a variety of therapists to deliver the best possible care to members of the community.

Rose Alquiza

Alumna: BHS, Health Management and Health Informatics, 2012

Just like other kids I knew, I wanted to be a doctor or a lawyer. In fact, I was in the pharmacy world for quite some time. And then life happened…

We came to Canada in 2007 and my life changed. Part of embracing my new home was embracing a new school, for a whole new potential career. I took a completely different direction with an open mind. Little did I know, I was already on my way to where I was meant to be – at the intersection of healthcare and IT.

Ashley Carr
Social Worker
, University of Toronto/Private Practice
Alumna: Specialized Honours BA, Pyschology, 2010

Having always been interested in the mental health field, studying psychology was an easy choice. My honours BA at York laid the groundwork for my current career as a social worker, providing mental health and therapy services for young adult/adult populations. My passion for providing safe and authentic spaces for people to feel accepted, heard, and supported has only grown throughout my years in this field.
