Biography

Tieghan Killackey is a registered nurse, an Assistant Professor at the York University School of Nursing and an Adjunct Scientist at SickKids Research Institute. Tieghan received her PhD from Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto and has a specific interest in improving patient and family experiences with transitions across the lifespan. Tieghan completed post-doctoral training in the department of Child Health Evaluative Sciences at the SickKIds Research Institute, and doctoral training at the Ted Rogers Center for Heart Research and Toronto General Hospital Research Institute (TGHRI). Tieghan's research uses mixed-methodologies to improve patient and family experiences within chronic illness care, with specific emphasis on enhancing patient autonomy and supporting self-management through transitions using technology and virtual care. Tieghan holds a certificate in Advanced Training in Qualitative Health Research Methodology, specialized training in bioethics from the Joint Centre for Bioethics in addition to being certified as a cardiovascular care nurse from the Canadian Nurses Association. Tieghan is also passionate about patient and family engagement and has received certification through the Family Engagement in Research course at McMaster University. She is an active member of CONNECT (Cardiac Surgery International Nursing & Allied health Professional Research Network), the Health Hub in Transition (Children's Healthcare Canada), the Canadian Heart Failure Alliance, the Canadian Nurses Association, and others.
